Restigouche
Art Society Formed
In the
Civil Defense Room at Campbellton City Hall, a meeting was
held to form an Art Society. The purpose of which was to
bring art exhibits to the community. The meeting was chaired
by Archie Harper and a slate of officers was elected.

24th - 29th, 1967
Restigouche Art Society Launches First Exhibition
The Centennial Library opened its doors to members of the
newly-formed Restigouche Art Society at a gala reception
introducing the prints of Mrs. Margot Lovejoy of New York
city. The occasion marked both the opening of the first
art gallery in the town's history and the first show organized
by the new Restigouche Art Society.

The Restigouche Art Society is registered as a charitable
organization with the Department of National Revenue.

27th, 1972
The official opening of the Restigouche Art Gallery
at the Campbellton Centennial Library.
Official opening of the Restigouche Art Gallery by the Hon.
Jean-Eudes Dubé, Federal, Minister of Veteran Affairs
Mr. Ian Lumsden, Curator of the Beaverbrook Art Gallery
and Mr. Robert Percival, Art Curator of the New Brunswick
Museum.
The first art gallery being part of the Campbellton Centennial
Library was owned and maintained by the City of Campbellton
and operated and controlled by the Restigouche Art Society.

Mrs. Ila McRae elected new president of Restigouche
Art Society
Mrs. Ila McRae was elected president of the Restiguoche
Art Society at the group's annual meeting held at the Chateau
Inn.

November 1st, 1975
Curator Named for Restigouche Gallery
Mr. René Jean, a Campbellton native, was appointed
curator of the Restigouche Gallery. The announcement was
made at a special meeting of the executive of the Restigouche
Art Society.
Tuesday,
January 13th, 1976
Restigouche Gallery Opens Its Doors to the Public.
The newly completed Exhibition Centre, Gallerie Restigouche
Gallery, on Andrew Street opened its doors to the public
to exhibit a collection of "Patchwork Quilts"
executed in the years prior by Evelyn Coutellier.

Official Gallery Opening
Among those who took part in the opening was Hon. Hugh Faulkner,
Secretary of State, whose department did much of the funding
for the project; Premier Richard Hatfield; Hon. Richard
Maritthew, provincial minister of education and Maurice
Harquil, M.P. for Restigouche.
